Schlumbergera / Hatiora gaertneri, known as Christmas cactus or Easter cactus, is a perennial succulent native to the humid mountain forests of south-eastern Brazil. This popular indoor plant has an articulated and flat stem with notched edges. The segments of the stems have a white wool and a few brownish or yellowish bristles. The scarlet, funnel shaped flowers form areoles at the tips and stem joints. These flowers will produce oblong red berries bearing brown seeds of about 1 mm of diameter.
