Monstera deliciosa Monstera deliciosa is a perennial plant of the Araceae family, native to warm tropical rainforests in Mexico, Central America, Peru and Ecuador. This decorative beauty is a climbing plant that clings with aerial roots of brownish color. It is known by its unique foliage consisting of large and green leaves with deep splits and holes. These glossy leaves can measure up to 1 m. All parts of this easy-to-grow plant are toxic to people and animals (because of the high concentration of oxalic acid) except for the ripe fruit. The greenish-white fruit can be edible after one year of ripening. Monstera rarely flowers indoors, but produces white small flowers outdoors.
